Cupressus sempervirens is a tall, long living evergreen, straight trunked, conical shaped conifer averaging approximately 100 ft in height, with slender dark green foliage. It bears small flowers and round brown-grey cones or seed nuts. The trees are harvested from 5 years onwards and continuing annually. Growing within the area of France and Spain, they also grow wild amongst the entire Mediterranean region, from England, across to the Balkan countries and including Northern Africa. The wood is highly prized for its hardness and durability. Once the leaves and terminal branches are collected, they are steam distilled to produce the essential oil. The color of Cypress Essential Oil is pale-yellow to almost colorless.
